We denounce the fact that this country went to war against Iraq. We were not in favour of the first gulf war, nor the terrible bombing of Serbia which lead to the horrific plight of the Kosovans. We demand the rapid withdrawal of UK troops from Iraq. Instead we propose to invest in Iraq as much as we can in promoting peace and reconciliation in the country. We will replace guns and bombs with the tools of non-violence. Everyone in Iraq wants to live in a society where their children have a future, where they do not fear being killed by a sniper in the street or a suicide bomber in a car. We demand the rapid withdrawal of UK troops from Iraq
We will channel our energy into helping the Iraqis learn these tools. It is not through the path of violence that peace will emerge. It is not in the interests of Iraq to continue living under a foreign occupation. Iraq needs to re-join the community of nations as a country that is committed to peace and non-violence, where it’s people have social justice, where it’s people have the right to express whichever religion or atheism they choose and where all parts of its community are represented in a democratically elected government. We propose to scrap all weapons of mass destruction that are held by the UK and to actively encourage our friends and allies to do the same. We propose to radically change the role of the armed forces of this country. Through the United Nations we will offer our armed forces to be at the service of peace keeping and disaster response around the world. Our soldiers will be trained in conflict resolution and international culture and relations. We will pull out of NATO and declare British neutrality. |
